Hello again!
I wanna write about books and social justice and make fun of Fox News with you all. As the title suggests, this is like one of those social media influencer posts where they say they’re taking a break from social media and instead of just not posting, they make a post about it. So on the other side of that, here I am announcing that I will be reviving this blog space once again! I mean it for real this time, and you can take my word for it because I got a new laptop that’s fully functional and works much more consistently than the $100 tablet I bought from Walmart. I had hoped that in getting a replacement for my Toshiba from junior year of high school, I might feel motivated to write since I wouldn’t have to update it every time I opened it/the charging cord wouldn’t spark when I plugged it in. But alas, $100 only gets you a very uncalibrated touch screen and keyboard so small that typos occur before I’ve even hit the keys. Longgggggg story short, I finally have a working laptop that already makes me want to get back into word vomitting on the internet!!
I won’t be consistent, and some posts will be like this where there’s little to no content – just setting the bar for expectations pretty low so that when I go above and beyond, people can be reallllly impressed. Some of the next few posts will likely be reviews/comments on the books I’ve read so far this year. I try to keep track of what I’m reading over on my bookstagram (cringe) account https://www.instagram.com/kates.books.and.co/ (There’s gotta be a way to just hyperlink within a word instead of including all the http BS but I’m figuring out this new WordPress as I go so pls bear with me!) ((I also just googled “bear with me vs. bare with me” to make sure I had the right one so yeah we’re all human and v transparent about it over here at thelavenderhours)).

I also wanna take this time to reiterate what I always say to people which is that while I do think it’s nice to have a ‘book goal’ for the year or to strive to read as much as you can, always try to remember that reading slumps are normal. Everyone has different tastes, reads at their own pace, and that’s why we love it. Everyone goes through phases of devouring books, and also goes through ruts where they don’t feel like reading at all. Comparison is the thief of joy, and reading should always be about living different lives, learning through those new perspectives, escaping the world, &/or taking it on headfirst. Also something to keep in mind when bookstagrammers say they’re on book 20 of the year while you’re almostttttt done with your 2nd… they may be reading 10 books that are 200 pages each while you’re over here taking on the friggen Hobbit or a good ole LOTR that’s more than double that. Again, not comparing page counts over here, just pointing out that instead of worrying you’re not “as good of a reader” as someone else is pointless and silly my little gooses!
On that note, my friends, I must bid you adieu. There’s also someone sitting behind me at this cafe that absolutely just saw me google “geese from aristocats”, insert the image, and then scroll up to see the pic of me with a chainsaw. Hell yeah brother!!
